I must admit it's a great learning app, easy to follow and to understand. Lots of explanations to help you regarding your language learning. Helpful hints clear dialogue with proper sounding humans. I really do want to give it 5 stars, but I'm experiencing some difficulty with the speaking/talking lessons. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I get half way through a dialogue or conversation and it suddenly stops working. It seems to be a regular occurrence. I shall endeavour to get to the bottom of the problem. But please don't let that put you off using Babbel, it really is a great learning app.

I've been doing a course for 60+ days. I feel like I'm improving every day. The topics are structured logically (so far).
However I don't like one thing - the sentences heard in the lesson dialogues are appearing in the daily review contents. It's impossible that a complex sentence that has been heard/read only once can be reconstructed with such little knowledge that a beginner has. This downgrades the usefulness of the daily review function.

I am truly disappointed with Babbel. They were not transparent at all about their decision to close Babbel live. Teachers were given only one month of notice and students who trusted the platform for their language learning were left behind in the middle of their journey.
Many of us had made plans based on Babbel’s courses and learning structure. Instead of communicating clearly or offering support or alternatives, they simply shut everything down without any plan for the future. There was no guidance, no transition help, and no respect for the community.
This is not just poor management. It shows a complete lack of responsibility and care for both students and teachers. Very unfortunate and deeply frustrating.

I like the flexibility and variety of activities available. I can switch between general progression, vocabulary work, grammar items and podcasts to break things up, as I want my progression to be thorough. I have also been able to reset my progress to allow in depth review of items I’ve forgotten.
What I would very much like, is the ability to opt for grammatical instructions to be in the target language by default with a button to show translation in my language when I get stuck.

I am only a couple of weeks into my Babbel journey but so far so good. A couple of early teething problems which customer services sorted out straight away. It’s user friendly, methodical and you can work at your own pace, SO much better than some of the other apps I have used, so I am really enjoying the experience and feel I am making progress.

I have been attending Babbel Live classes (B1-B2 German) and they are an excellent way to learn a language, especially with teachers who provide constructive on-the-spot feedback. The class size (1-6 people) is an ideal learning environment. I have had over thirty different instructors and every one of them has helped me improve my spoken German.

I joined for Danish mainly, but it only has until A2.
It has literal translations, and plenty of explanations. In my case, I can only do speaking from my phone, as I do not use Chrome on my PC.
The grammar is very intuitive and there are simple explanations. Still, I would not use it for true beginners.
The shortcuts for special characters are very useful in case of lacking access to that type of keyboard.
I want to learn Danish, but also push my English harder, so I am forced to change to Spanish to get to the C1 level of English, and change the app to English again so Danish is easier to understand (Danish from Spanish is not the best, in my opinion). Not everyone can use two languages for learning, but there should be some kind of window where I can select "Eng>Dan" and "Spa>Eng", or something like that.

Good introduction of different language and grammar concepts… I think it is important to use the review facilities frequently as it’s very easy to get carried away romping through all the different lessons … need to ensure it’s hard wired to be effective. I like the different formats for reviewing available

I have tried numerous language apps, and Babel is my favorite. I enjoy the lessons, and I like the fact I can link to live lessons for a reasonable price. I seem to retain better with Babel than any other app I’ve used, and to me, that’s the important thing.

Easy to follow and the visuals make it much more interesting, particularly as new information is difficult to absorb when you're 75 yrs old! I'm finding it challenging, but rewarding.

Make sure you cancel your subscription because Babbel will automatically rebill you every year even though you're not using their service. They sell it like it's a one-year subscription but it renews every year. And they will not refund your money once they bill you.

I like the overall feel of the app. They have a structured program with many topics. They introduce grammar concept for people to learn too and also touch on the different varieties of the language (in my case Spanish has them) in different countries.

I would rather give my opinion about my 2.5 years experience with Babbel.
Although I have parallelly used three other apps incl. Duolingo, Babbel is my favourite.
I used it for shaping up my French and was happy with it, but mostly for Norwegian as a beginner. What is positive is that Babbel tries to teach grammar, but the level where the Norwegian course stops is much lower than in the case of French, it is not enough to learn Norwegian. I like it and use it for keeping the basic knowledge fresh, but I had to move on to another course that goes beyond A2-B1 level.
I like that Babbel is not pushy towards the pupil but would be great to have an advanced course of small languages as well.
To summarize, I am happy with my lifetime subscription.

Oh, lifetime subscription! I am still receiving the subscription ads in email. It would be nice to filter out from the distribution list those who already have lifetime subscription. :)

I'm enjoying learning French with Babbel, but there are a few things that would make it better.

It would help if there was an option to slow the dialogue.

Sometimes the lesson appears rushed. There is a dialogue which is spoken at the same time as the written form appears. The dialogue often introduces new words, but there isn't sufficient time given for the user to absorb them. Later the user has to remember the word and it's spelling in order to type it into a response. It took me ages (and a repeated lesson) before I could remember and spell "cacahuetes".

The written text or individual letter prompts that appear at the bottom of the screen are far too small. I sometimes have problems deciding if a letter is an i or an l.

Despite having a good fast network connection, it seems that the app struggles when it's checking my pronunciation over mobile data. It works fine on my WiFi but consistently fails over mobile data.

**Review of Dutch Language Course**

I have been enrolled in this Dutch language course for a few years now, and I must say, I truly appreciate the methodology used throughout the program. The structured approach to learning makes it easy to follow along, and I love the variety of lessons provided. Each session feels fresh and engaging, with a strong emphasis on vocabulary reviews that reinforce what I've learned.

The lessons are designed to cater to different aspects of the language, which keeps me motivated and eager to learn more. However, I do find the feedback comments a bit trite at times, and they can become somewhat annoying. While constructive criticism is essential, I wish they were a bit more personalized or varied to enhance the learning experience.

One downside I've encountered is the lack of new lessons available at this point in my journey. It's disappointing to feel like I've reached a plateau after making significant progress. Despite this, I still feel that the course has equipped me with a solid foundation in Dutch.

Overall, I highly recommend this course for anyone looking to learn Dutch, but I hope they expand their lesson offerings in the future to keep long-term learners like me engaged.
